Texas House members gave the thumbs up last week to three crucial construction industry bills, clearing a major hurdle as they move to Senate committees for further consideration.
HB 1734: School Construction Defects - The bill has advanced to the Senate, where it awaits consideration in the Senate Education Committee.
HB 1999: Right to Inspect & Repair - The bill has now moved to the Senate, where it awaits committee assignment.
HB 790: Attorney's Fees in Breach of Contract Claims - The bill has now moved to the Senate, where it awaits committee assignment.

With the US-China trade dispute winding down and the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement progressing toward ratification, Steel Dynamics CEO Mark Millett suggests the U.S. could transition from imposing tariffs to enforcing quotas on imported steel. Proponents say quotas curb the practice of letting cheap steel reach the market, while opponents claim quotas could disrupt the market.

Here's Looking at You
The construction industry, along with school district representatives, architects and engineers filled the Boy Scouts of America - Cockrell Scout Center on April 29 for the annual AGC/A4LE joint meeting. For 20 years, AGC Houston and the Association for Learning Environment (Gulf Coast Chapter) have worked to gether to identify and address issues that affect regional K-12 school construction market.
The April 29 event featured Patrick J. Kiley, FMI, who presented the Houston MSA Economic and Construction Outlook and highlighted the area's economic drivers and the critical workforce shortage.He then led a discussion on recent school project challenges that featured Jacob Haucke, Brookstone, LP and Gary Whittle, CBRE | Heery.
David Rowe and Bob Richardson, Durotech, Inc. presented the annual cost survey results (K-12 Bulletin - April 2019) and moderated an industry panel of industry experts.
Panelists included Mike Holland, Marek Brothers Systems, Inc.; Randy Whiddon, LECS; David Tunning, Envirotech Mechanical; Joel Littlefield, Deanco Civil; and Eddie Sanders, TAS Commercial Concrete.
Representatives from 15 School districts attended the event including Alief ISD, Alvin ISD, Clear Creek ISD, Conroe ISD, Cypress Fairbanks ISD, Galena Park ISD,Goose Creek CISD, Houston ISD, Humble ISD, Katy ISD, Lamar Consolidated ISD, New Caney ISD, Sheldon ISD, Spring Branch ISD, and Spring ISD.
