Message from the President/CEO
APEX Live! and WellThe third time really was the charm! After unsuccessfully setting APEX Gala dates for September 2020 and January of this year, we were finally able to celebrate the event on Saturday, May 22, at the Houstonian Hotel. Seeing a ballroom full of people was well worth the wait. It was a great looking crowd, I might add! Congratulations to all the winning firms that received an APEX Award, whether Gold, Bronze or Silver. They were judged the “best of the best,” but every project submitted in some way showcased the outstanding work done by our AGC members. Thank you to our dedicated judges who, for the first time in APEX history, were asked to handle all judging duties virtually. I especially want to congratulate our 2020 Master Builder honoree, John Kirksey. The list of past recipients is an impressive one, and John’s name only accentuates that roster. In addition to his contributions to the world of architecture and to the community in which he resides, John is genuinely a thoughtful and considerate individual. Congratulations to John, and a special thank you to him and his wife Kyle for joining in the evening’s celebration. Jerry Nevlud Member News
SATTERFIELD & PONTIKES CONSTRUCTION NAMES JOHN MARSHALL AS DIRECTOR, CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE
With an eye on long-term growth and enhanced market opportunity, S&P established Centers of Excellence earlier this year in Education, Aviation, Healthcare, Mission Critical and Multi-Family. The new COEs are led by industry experts and complement the company’s existing robust portfolio in the Commercial and Industrial segments. Marshall most recently has been leading the Education COE on behalf of S&P and will continue to do so in his expanded role. “John has been instrumental in the development of this company over the years," said Satterfield & Pontikes President Clay E. Morel. “His appointment to oversee all of our Centers of Excellence, including in Education construction where he has deep expertise, indicates our enormous confidence in his abilities to lead teams of subject matter experts and identify opportunities with our long-term goals for sustainable growth.” As the company’s COE Director, Marshall will continue to serve as a technical expert for S&P’s educational clients while working with the company’s other COE leaders to align market intelligence, client management, strategic alliances and community involvement.
OSHA FAQ'S on Recording Adverse Reactions ofCOVID-19 VaccineAGC has proposed that any adverse reactions to the COVID-19 vaccine as a result of these owner or client policies should not be recorded on the contractor’s OSHA 300 Log. The potential recordability when contractors simply recommend employees to receive the vaccine and not mandate it is also of concern. In their FAQs, OSHA states that adverse reactions to recommended COVID-19 vaccines may be recordable; however, this is counter to their existing recordkeeping regulations, which state that injuries or illnesses resulting solely from voluntary participation in a wellness program or a medical activity such as a flu shot is not a recordable incident.
