Celebrating Excellence: Highlights from the 2024 Patrick J. Kiley Excellence in Leadership Scholarship Event

We are thrilled to share highlights from our Patrick J. Kiley Excellence in Leadership Scholarship program held on May 23, 2024. This incredible event featured Armando Perez, Executive Vice President for H-E-B Houston, as our esteemed keynote speaker. Huge thanks to Marek Brothers Systems, LLC, for hosting us, and to Lisa Liberato with Marek Brothers Systems, LLC, and John Morvant with Tellepsen for helping our team pull everything together despite our office being without power.

During the program, $50,000 was awarded to 34 college-bound and university students through the Patrick J. Kiley Excellence in Leadership scholarship. Additionally, the event recognized four individuals who received Associated General Contractors of America Education and Research Foundation scholarships. Now in its 28th year, the program has awarded a total of 303 scholarships, amounting to $783,000.

We're so excited for the future of construction in Houston and can't wait to see the amazing things these students do! Let's continue to bring people together to support the issues important to the commercial construction industry.

AGC Releases First of Its Kind Decarbonization and Carbon Reporting Playbook

On Earth Day, AGC provided a sneak peek of a new document, The AGC Playbook on Decarbonization and Carbon Reporting in the Construction Industry (Decarb Playbook), designed by contractors for contractors to help address greenhouse gas emissions for the projects they build. The final, published version and associated emissions calculator are now available for anyone to download from AGC’s website.

AGC’s Decarb Playbook provides contractors with tools to communicate effectively with project teams and successfully navigate the complexities of carbon reporting for a project. It describes a process for identifying accountability, what to track and report, and how to do so. In addition, the playbook offers a host of industry-identified strategies and tips for reducing carbon emissions from their projects. Task force members shared highlights on the playbook and its development in an Earth Day briefing. Watch it online here.

The playbook was written by a task force the association established in early 2023. Representatives from these AGC member firms worked for the last year to develop the new resource. AGC welcomes feedback to improve future versions.
