Education/Training |
Completion of this course meets the requirements of OSHA Paragraph 1926.50, and participants will receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid and CPR/AED wallet card valid for two years upon course completion.

This six-session class will focus on the fundamentals of construction plans and document reading. Each class section meets every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for two consecutive weeks.

This course covers the requirements for the establishment, maintenance, and monitoring of a respiratory protection program.
|
Offered on five consecutive Thursdays, the OSHA 30-Hour Course is designed for project management, site supervision and field employees involved in the construction industry. Many owners are now requiring that onsite supervision obtain the 30-Hour construction outreach training program as an orientation to occupational safety and health covered by OSHA 29 CFR 1926.

W.S. Bellows Construction Corp. was recently recognized by The Houston Zoo for successfully completing the new highly anticipated exhibit, The African Gorilla Forest. The forest will be a state-of-the-art natural habitat to seven gorillas with features that include a waterfall, flowing stream, natural and artificial logs, and boardwalks for visitors to get a closer look. There will also be a huge, sloping berm with dense forest and moat. The exhibit will officially open to the public on May 22, 2015. Click here for more information.

Congratulations to Anslow Bryant Construction, LTD., Brookstone, LP, Linbeck Group, LLC, Satterfield And Pontikes Construction Inc., Aggregate Technologies, Inc., and Peterson Beckner Industries, Inc. on taking home a Construction Safety Excellence Award at the WILLIS Safety Awards Breakfast held March 19, 2015 in conjunction with the AGC of America Convention in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
These AGC Houston member companies were recognized for their overall safety and health program, commitment to safety regarding new programs, increased employee involvement in safety, management’s commitment to safety and no fatality or multi-catastrophic injuries in the past year. This marked the 16th year AGC of America has held the Construction Safety Excellence Awards—a nationally-coveted award.
BUILDING DIVISION
Brookstone, LP captured First Place in the 100,000 to 250,000 work-hours category.
Linbeck Group, LLC won First Place in the 650,000 to 850,000 work-hours category.
CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT –
Anslow Bryant Construction, Ltd. won Third Place in the Under 500 work-hours category.
Satterfield and Pontikes Construction, Inc. won Second Place in the 500,000+ work-hours category.

It was an exceptionally proud moment for AGC Houston to witness Anslow Bryant Construction, LTD. and Linbeck Group, LLC take home a prized Alliant Build Award at a luncheon ceremony on March 19, 2015 in conjunction with the AGC 96th Annual Convention in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Anslow Bryant Construction, Ltd. captured a Merit Award in the Design-Build Category for The Treehouse Memorial City built for MetroNational in Houston. The Treehouse—a two-story, 14,700-square-foot structure located at 963 Bunker Hill in Memorial City—is home to all of Memorial City's development activities including master planning, architecture, construction and interior design. The Treehouse combines modern design, innovative technology, and green building principles, such as a geothermal cooling and heating system, daylight harvesting lights that automatically adjust in response to changing levels of natural light, and a green roof complete with solar panels, rainwater collection, wind turbine and a rooftop garden.
Linbeck Group, LLC took home the Alliant Build America award in the Construction Management New Category for the Tobin Center For The Performing Arts in San Antonio. The project represents a joint venture with Zachry Corporation. Officially opening September 4, 2014, the Tobin Center For The Performing Arts consisted of the complete renovation of the historic Municipal Auditorium's façade, while incorporating a brand new 183,000 square-foot, 1,700-seat multipurpose performance arts hall into the original frame. Inside the main hall, the $8 million flexible floor allows the plush seating to be changed from concert to a banquet or gala setting in 23 minutes. The design of the acoustical trim recalls the original wood trim of the Municipal Auditorium.

In an effort to assist Houston area employers with compliance of federal Wage and Hour laws, the Department of Labor, Houston District Office, will begin offering monthly compliance assistance workshops to employers. These free workshops will cover various Wage and Hour laws and topics relating to specific industries and pay practices. This outreach program will kick off on March 26 with our Wage and Hour 101: What to expect during a WH investigation workshop. Registration is now open for the Gulf Coast’s largest sustainability conference on Friday, March 27, 2015, at the Norris Conference Center in the City Centre complex. The conference features three speaker tracks and keynote presentations by city planner and urban designer Jeff Speck and Mike Lydon of The Street Plans Collaborative. Designed by Powers Brown Architecture, Westway Plaza Office Complex is pursuing LEED Gold Certification, has been leased by three tenants and will be 100% occupied by completion. Questions? The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston will use a $75 million gift from The Sealy & Smith Foundation to renovate the John Sealy Hospital. The 12-story hospital, which was built in the 1970s, will be renovated inside and out. The entire project will cost approximately $133 million, and UTMB will fund the remaining $58 million through debt and local sources. UTMB has not named an architecture firm or contractor yet, a spokesman said. The improvements and upgrades will include reconfiguring floors three through seven to provide women's and children's services.

State funding for college campus construction projects has been described by many around Texas as "long overdue." This year, various construction associations, educators, and others are pushing lawmakers to approve as much as $3.6 billion in new buildings at multiple college campuses. Most of these projects could be funded by something called Tuition Revenue Bonds (TRB), which are floated by tuition and fees. Senator Seliger’s Senate Bill 150 would spend about $2.9 billion on 64 projects. The largest of those would be $90 million for a health and biomedical sciences center at the University of Houston.
