AGC Houston invites you to join us for the 2015 National Safety Stand-Down. AGC Houston and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are partnering to promote Fall Protection during the 2015 Safety Stand Down May 4-15, 2015. 
Multiple construction organizations will be supporting this industry-wide effort to emphasize and promote jobsite safety. For the past 12 years, Houston members have been key supporters of the event, leading safety performance at the city, state and national levels.

Offered on five consecutive Thursdays, the OSHA 30-Hour Course is designed for project management, site supervision and field employees involved in the construction industry. Many owners are now requiring that onsite supervision obtain the 30-Hour construction outreach training program as an orientation to occupational safety and health covered by OSHA 29 CFR 1926.

This course covers the OSHA standards for the construction industry found in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1926 along with other relevant policies, procedures, and safety and health principles for the construction industry. Special emphasis is placed on those areas that are the most hazardous and most frequently cited by OSHA.

Thanks to the Patrick J. Kiley Excellence in Leadership Awards, seven Houston-area college-bound and university students received scholarships to pursue degrees in a construction-related discipline. AGC Houston held the annual event on April 9 at the HESS Club, which featured a guest speaker, the Houston Astros' Reid Ryan, who spoke about his current role, his career in minor league baseball, and growing up on the Astroturf while watching his father, Nolan Ryan, play with the Houston Astros.

AGC has been monitoring a lawsuit filed by a city in Vermont over a waterbody clean-up plan that limits the rate at which stormwater can "flow" into a polluted stream in order to meet water quality standards. This new legal challenge is reviving the debate over whether the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) can use flow as a surrogate for controlling sediment-laden runoff.
