The AGC Houston Safety Committee planned for Friday, May 29, 2015 at 7:15 a.m. at the AGC Houston office has been cancelled and will reconvene in June. Due to the severe weather conditions, many safety supervisors and industry professionals are visiting jobsites this week to inspect damages. Contact Safety Director, Kim Mason, for more information.

AGC Houston is pleased to announce the rebirth of the Employment Practices Committee, which specializes in issues facing human resources professionals, labor and employment attorneys, and anyone dealing with Department of Labor issues.

Each year, AGC Houston recognizes companies that have participated in the Safety Stand-Down and the AGC Safety Excellence Award. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, July 15, 7:30 - 9 a.m at the Junior League of Houston. This year's meeting will feature keynote speaker Derek Daly, international racing champion, best-selling author and TV's face of motor sports.

To develop the tools needed to build Lean, AGC has developed the Lean Construction Education Program (Units 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7). Construction professionals at all experience levels learn the building blocks necessary to transform their projects and companies into a Lean operating system.
Topics include variation pull in production, the Last Planner® System, lean supply chains and assembly, lean design/ pre-construction, and problem-solving principles.

ATTENTION! The First Aid/CPR/AED class has been rescheduled to Wednesday, May 27. Participants who complete this course will meet the requirements of OSHA Paragraph 1926.50 and receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid and CPR/AED wallet card.

This session will build on the Liens and Bonds speech with an advanced discussion of liens and how they are enforced. The session will also cover a variety of payment topics such as spotting important issues in joint check agreements, the new law related to releases and the construction trust fund act.

Lean Construction challenges all project stakeholders to develop and apply better ways to manage the overall construction process. Unit 1: Variation in Production Systems is a half-day course that introduces you to the foundational concepts of Lean Construction.

Construction firms added 45,000 jobs in April and 280,000 over 12 months, as the sector's unemployment rate fell to a nine-year April low of 7.5 percent, according to an analysis by AGC of America.

The bill that would create a fund to fix up to $1.5 billion in deferred maintenance on state infrastructure breezed through the Texas House on Thursday by a 146-0 vote. Having already passed the Senate, the bill now heads to Gov. Greg Abbott for consideration.

The $10 million renovation of Francis Hall at Texas A&M University puts the school in a one-of-a-kind position among institutions of higher education in the state. It is the only building anywhere in Texas dedicated solely to the education of construction sciences, according to Joe Horlen, who heads up the Department of Construction Science in College Station.
