AGC Houston and the Texas Building Branch have been fielding a lot of questions regarding the new gun laws, which passed earlier this year: House Bill 910 and Senate Bill 11. House Bill 910 allows a license holder to "open carry" a handgun in a holster beginning on January 1, 2016. Read a helpful article here written by Tony Stergio, Andrews Myers, PC. See more resources on link below.

For several years, AGC Houston has conducted the Labor & Materials Cost Survey. And every year, increasing numbers of construction firms, architects, engineers, and owners request the results throughout the year. It is a valuable tool to all industry members, and it is especially helpful in educating owners about possible increases/decreases in costs and potential shortages that may affect their projects. Please take a moment to fill in the form and return it by December 30, 2015. We want to continue to report on these matters.

After a career that has spanned 45 years with the W. S. Bellows Construction Corp. as Vice President of Estimating, Jack Roberts is retiring and looking forward to spending time on his farm and with his family. When Roberts began his career with W.S. Bellows Construction Corp. in 1970, he had just earned a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A & M. He was hired first as an intern by Jack Bellows and started full time, progressing through the company, from project engineer to vice president of estimating in 1995.

Roberts recalled one of his favorite projects: the Marathon Oil Tower where he served as superintendent for the first time. He credits two of his most influential mentors, George Bellows and Warren Bellows, Jr., for giving him not just a job, but a career in which he looked forward to going to work everyday.

Roberts leaves his legacy in good hands: Brent Miller who has been with the company for 19 years and is currently Chief Estimator, will take over in Roberts' capacity.

Jack and his wife Wanda plan on spending more time with their three sons and extended family. Congratulations on reaching this significant milestone and on a successful career!
