Gilbane Building Company Uses Virtual Reality to Honor Veterans

On September 22, 2016, veterans representing World War II and the Korean War, along with representatives from Gilbane Building Company and other attendees, gathered at North Hills Country Club in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin for the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight fundraising event and provided veterans with a truly unique virtual reality experience. The veterans were blown away with the experience. "After their experience, a lot of the responses were open jaws and in awe, some were almost in tears," says Devon Rutkowski, Media Designer at Gilbane Building Company.

Library has a unique curvilinear shape as a reflection of the corresponding curving Metro Rail site

Gilbane Building Company joined several hundred community leaders and residents on Saturday, November 5, 2016 to celebrate the much-anticipated grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Young Neighborhood Library in Houston, Texas, which is named for Alice McKean Young, an early advocate for expansion of library services throughout Houston. The
new City of Houston 16,000 square-foot library has a unique curvilinear shape in
two dimensions to reflect the corresponding curving Metro Rail line
that passes in close proximity to the site.

Rogers-O’Brien Construction Welcomes Jennifer Gonzales And LaKeta Morris

Rogers-O'Brien Construction recently announced the addition of Jennifer Gonzales, Senior Project Manager, to their Houston team. Gonzales brings over 18 years of project management experience. Gonzales is a LEED-accredited professional with the United States Green Building Council and is a member of the AGC Houston Membership Committee.

LaKeta Morris, Marketing Director, joined the team in spring and brings over 28 years of marketing and business development experience in the construction industry. She directs marketing strategies and provides business development support for Rogers-O’Brien Construction in the greater Houston market. Morris holds a bachelor of science degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

ACE Mentor Houston Has Urgent Need For Mentors

ACE Mentor Houston is seeking construction industry professionals to mentor high school students interested in learning about the world of architecture, construction and engineering.

"If you can volunteer and help to mentor students, please let us know. The best way to get in touch is by emailing us at HoustonTX@acementor.org or visiting us on the web at www.acementor.org/houston," says Angela Cotie, Gilbane Building Company, Chairman of the Board for ACE Mentor Houston. "We really have a critical need and hope that we can make sure these students get the help and guidance they need."

In this after-school mentoring program, student teams work directly with professionals from the A/E/C industry to design hypothetical projects, tour local construction sites and visit architectural, engineering and construction offices. The program runs from October to April and meets at one of eight locations around Houston. The group needs help at the following locations: Galena Park, North Belt, and Spring.

AGC Houston members are invited to join the Houston Revit Users group, which meets on the second Tuesday of the month. Revit and BIM application users range from beginner to expert skill levels.
