Creating the Building Blocks for Our Future Leaders

Designed to develop and grow our industry’s future leaders, this program will provide a forum for and increase the awareness of potential AGC leaders by giving them an intensive experience that  encompasses a broad scope of community and industry concerns.

 

The 12-session series will connect Leadership AGC participants with leaders in the construction, development, business, medical, industrial, political and educational arenas.

Safety
  
This course is designed to provide entry-level construction workers general awareness on recognizing and preventing hazards on a construction site. This class covers the safety requirements as contained in 29 CFR 1926.  Last 30-hour class of the year, this course will be held Thursday, November 5 and Friday, November 6, 2020.

Construction firms reported diverging views over the past month about when business will “return to its normal level of operations relative to one year ago,” based on results from Census’s latest weekly Small Business Pulse Survey, released by AGC of America with responses from October 4 to 12. The share of firms that expect returning to normal will take more than six months edged up to 33.6% from 32.0% in the September 6-12 survey.

Several AGC Houston members turned up on the golf course in full costume to play in the Torneo De Los Muertos golf tournament October 26 at The Golf Club at Cinco Ranch. This event benefits We'll Get This!, a non-profit organization supporting children with cancer and their families with transportation costs and other challenges.

According to the latest Contractor Compensation Quarterly (CCQ) published by PAS, Inc., Open Shop contractors anticipate skilled craft hourly wage increases of 2.64% in 2020 (2.91% excluding zeros). Actual increases for 2019 were 3.25% (including zeros) and 3.26% (excluding zeros).  These increases are across the board for all craft, contractor types, sizes, and regions of the country.

The US has led the world with 55,000 hotel rooms added during the coronavirus pandemic, but the country has seen a 56% year-over-year increase in deferred hotel construction, according to STR. "We expect that new construction will slow further as hotel demand isn't expected to return to 2019 levels," said Jamie Lane, an econometric adviser at CBRE.

OSHA has published additional frequently asked questions and answers regarding the need to report employees’ in-patient hospitalizations and fatalities resulting from work-related cases of the coronavirus.

 

These FAQs are the latest effort by OSHA to provide employers and employees with more information about how it will enforce its standards and regulations during the pandemic. OSHA has also previously published revised enforcement guidance detailing how OSHA will enforce the recordkeeping requirements of 29 CFR 1904 for employee coronavirus illnesses for all employers.
