At the end of 2014, SpawGlass Construction Corp. bid a fond farewell and happy retirement to two long-time team members in their Houston office. With 40 years of service, John English was roasted by several colleagues and surrounded by friends to reminisce and celebrate the next chapter at the Hearthstone Country Club on December 3. Lloyd Johnson was also recognized for his 21 years of service at the SpawGlass holiday party on December 5 where he received a new BBQ pit. AGC Houston wishes you both the best of luck!

Sabra Phillips has joined The Marek Companies as the Director of Talent Development. Phillips will lead Marek’s talent and workforce development program  across the company's offices located in Houston, Dallas-Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Austin and Atlanta. The Society for Marketing Professional Services and AGC Houston are teaming up for the annual Hard Hat Tour. This year, the tour will take place at the Westway Plaza Office Complex designed by Powers Brown Architecture.The building features a 323,921-square-foot, five-story tilt wall (4+1 stacked) office building and a six-level, 374,925-square-foot parking garage. The building, which is pursuing LEED Gold certification, has been leased by three tenants and will be 100 percent occupied by completion.

In an effort to assist Houston area employers with compliance of federal Wage and Hour laws, the Houston District Office will begin offering monthly compliance assistance workshops to employers. These free workshops will cover various Wage and Hour laws and topics relating to specific industries and pay practices. This outreach program will kick off on March 26 with our Wage and Hour 101:  What to expect during a WH investigation workshop. The Katy Development Authority announced one year ago plans for a boardwalk and park surrounding a retention pond behind Katy Mills Mall. The project has since ballooned to encompass a convention center complex, complete with a hotel and parking garage. The 80-acre development project has some homeowners concerned about the impact it might have on nearby communities. The Katy Mills Boardwalk will also include zones for retail, office and residential. Simpkins Group, the owners of the boardwalk property, will pay for the construction of the project's planned structure and infrastructure.
