The Howard Hughes Corporation recently broke ground on Lakeland Village Center, the first commercial development in the master planned community Bridgeland. Phase 1 (20 acres) delivers in spring 2016 and will have 84,000 square feet of mixed-use space, including retail, restaurants and professional/medical offices. The company owns, develops and manages masterplanned communities including The Woodlands and Bridgeland in the greater Houston area. Baylor St. Luke's has filed more building permits totaling $49 million for its McNair campus according to a breaking article posted in The Houston Business Journal . The permits list build outs for several floors of the McNair campus, located at 7200 Cambridge St. The permits listed AGC Houston member J.E. Dunn Construction Co. as the contractor. The Houston Business Journal took a tour of the campus in October, and at the time, hospital execs said the plans were to build out different facets of the campus in stages. There are also plans to build an additional patient tower and medical office building, which could start this year.

Texas added 33,200 jobs in May, the third highest gain in the nation. Although the unemployment rate ticked up to 4.3 percent, a report released by Wells Fargo Economics Group suggests that Texas has so far avoided a recession.

About 90% of the expansion work to widen and deepen the Panama Canal has been finished as the project enters its final stage. The third set of locks is 88% complete, and 16 rolling gates have been installed. Now, more than 150 valves to control water movement are being installed. The concrete placement volume has surpassed 5 million cubic yards.
