Construction spending climbed in May to the highest level since October 2008, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials cautioned, however, that those spending gains could be at risk unless all levels of government strengthen programs to develop the construction workforce.

It is with great sadness that AGC Houston learned of the recent passing of Robert Knox, a 38-year Construction Superintendent with W.S. Bellows Construction Corp. Mr. Knox retired in September 2009 and had worked on numerous Houston landmarks such as the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Audrey Jones Beck Building, Fannin Service Center, and Parking Garage; Compaq Computer Corporation’s Enterprise Operations Center Phase III; several building facilities for Texas Children's Hospital; the First City Tower Lobby, Plaza and Mall renovations; Hermann Hospital, new Pavilion Mock-Up; renovations at Two and Four Greenspoint, and many other construction projects. A memorial service to celebrate his life was held on July 11, 2015 at Unity Baptist Church in Porter, Texas. Condolences may be sent to Mrs. Knox and Family at 1915 Surry Oaks Dr., New Caney, Texas 77357.

The Clean Water Rule: Definition of "Waters of the United States" (WOTUS) was officially published in the Federal Register on June 29 and is effective August 28, 2015. Immediately following publication, at least 18 state attorneys jointly filed three lawsuits to block the rule.

The Federal Aviation Administration granted a launch site license to make Ellington Airport the 10th commercial spaceport in the U.S., the Houston Airport System announced June 30. Now, HAS can turn its attention to establishing the required infrastructure and support facilities needed to accommodate reusable launch vehicles, which will launch horizontally like commercial aircraft, rather than vertically.
