Well, the shortage has been growing, but ironically, the problem has been mitigated by lower oil prices and a sagging economy – but now it’s here in spades, on the cusp of a prospectively busy summer season. This year at HAC’s YVR Convention, one of the issues that we need to focus on, is the shortage of pilots and Engineers – and what to do about it.
We have an aging demographic of experienced people; a challenging Temporary Foreign Workers (TFW) policy; and a younger generation that seem to be less enthusiastic about entering our industry. This is an urgent issue that can only be addressed through a dialogue that includes operators, AMOs, Transport Canada, and our customers. Stay tuned for more, in our new Newsletter.
