HAC and ATAC have been very active on the Flight & Duty Time file, and our most recent efforts have been focused on driving the Minister of Transport to pause and revisit the terms of the draft regulations published in Canada Gazette I on July 1 2017. We have joined with many of our customers, and the communities that we serve. Northern, remote and indigenous communities will be hardest hit by the regulations in their current form, and they have started to raise their voices on this subject.
This last week has been particularly important as we alert government to the seriousness of our concerns, in a number new of ways. ATAC and HAC held a Press Conference in the National Press Theatre on Parliament Hill, to alert the media and members of the general public to the serious nature of our concerns. Five carriers representing different industry segments met with members of the press and urged the Minister to revisit the regulations. ATAC and HAC have maintained that the Minister has been on “transmit” and not on “receive,” on this subject for almost eight years. A copy of the press release for the event can be found HERE.
