Late in June, HAC’s President & CEO participated in an interview with the CTA to discuss the prospective applicability of the new Passenger Rights regulations, to the Canadian helicopter industry. The new regulations are intended to address issues relating to compensation for delayed flights; tarmac delays; cancellations; denied boarding (i.e. for overbooking, downsized aircraft, unruly passengers etc.); lost or damaged baggage; unaccompanied minors; the communication of flight information; etc. HAC spent a considerable amount of time educating CTA staff on the nature of helicopter operations in Canada. The issues under discussion are more applicable to the large scheduled fixed-wing operators, than to helicopter operators whose flight crews have a much closer working relationship with their customers, and HAC is advocating that helicopter operators are excluded from the applicability of the new regulations, altogether.
