Recently, Transport Canada announced its new Director Generals. Nicholas Robinson has been named the new Director General, while Francois Collins has been named the new Associate Director General. The division of responsibility between the two positions has not yet been fully articulated.
Nicolas Robinson
Prior to joining Transport Canada, Nicholas was the Director General of strategic policy and government affairs at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, where he was responsible for providing strategic advice and support to the Federal minister of public safety and the commissioner of the RCMP on horizontal and Government of Canada issue management and policy and priorities that impact public safety and security. As part of the role, Nicholas led the transformation project of the RCMP’s federal policing program to respond to the evolving nature in which law enforcement must respond to national security and risks to public safety. Nicholas has also worked with the Government of Canada’s Privy Council Office where he was responsible for advising the government and cabinet on issues relating to public safety, justice and veterans affairs.
Nicholas has a bachelor of health science and a master of arts from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
François Collins
François Collins began his career with Transport Canada in 2002. He has held various position within the organization overseeing rule making, certification and oversight. Today, he currently holds the position of Associate Director General, civil aviation.
Before joining Transport Canada, François worked for 15 years in the aviation industry as a pilot operating in the four corners of the world.
