HR Florida Recognizes Mallory Whalen as 2020 HR Professional of the Year
Orlando, Fla. – (September 9, 2020) – HR Florida State Council (HR Florida), the premier resource for best practices serving the public and HR professionals in the state of Florida, awarded Mallory Whalen the 2020 HR Professional of the Year award. Each year, the council recognizes a human resources leader who has advanced the profession in a significant way. Whalen received the honor during the conference, which began on Sunday, August 30th and concluded on Wednesday, September 2nd.
One of the main considerations for this award is how the nominee recognizes and works with employees. Whalen is constantly striving to create workplaces where employees feel respected and valued. She is a key driver of a humanistic company culture, where mistakes are seen as learning opportunities and employees directly understand how their efforts are tied into company success. Employees that work with her are able to speak up without fear of retaliation or dismissal. She facilitates one-on-one meetings with employees to discuss performance and company growth goals, while also leading her company’s biannual 360-degree feedback review process for all employees.
“We are honored to present this award to Mallory as she is an exemplary professional who is dedicated to helping both employees and companies grow and develop,” said HR Florida State Council President Heather Deyrieux. “She is a prime example of why human resources professionals can make the workplace environment not only a space where all feel welcomed and safe, but also one that provides everyone an opportunity to excel.”
A colleague of Whalen’s once said she was “built for success from her core.” Her exceptional leadership style can be seen in the awards her companies and organizations have won. This includes features in Inc. Magazine’s Best Workplaces from 2017 to 2020 and Florida Trend Magazine’s Top 5 Best Companies to Work for in Florida from 2016 to 2019.
“As a human resources professional, I always strive to make the workplace better for employees,” said Whalen. “This recognition validates the work I am doing is making a difference and I could not be prouder to accept this honor.”
Whalen is currently the director of human resources at Bit-Wizards, a technology company that helps with application development, digital marketing, cloud infrastructure and managed IT services. She currently holds the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and Professional in Human Resources (PHR) designations.
