District 5 was in the House at HR Florida’s State Conference last month! It did my heart and soul well to see my District 5 Chapter Presidents, Eveline Kraljic, SHRM-CP, PHR, PHRca, Volusia/Flagler SHRM, Nate Shannon, SPHR, SHRM-SPC, GOSHRM, and Mcshell Alvarez-Rivon, Space Coast Human Resource Association of Florida (SCHRA) all in person.
As with all chapters, COVID-19 has brought many challenges and as usual, our SHRM chapters have risen above and made the best of a challenging situation.
Volusia/Flagler SHRM took the opportunity to create a monthly publication called “Sky’s the Limit”, a comprehensive compilation of free (or low cost) virtual programming from a variety of organizations and SHRM chapters throughout the state. They were District 5’s first chapter taking the next step to get back to life and living by hosting their first in-person meeting on Wednesday, September 16th.
GOSHRM has been keeping their membership engaged by focusing their upcoming meetings on current events and issues confronting all HR professionals and their organizations. September’s meeting has an expert panel whose focus will be the “2020 Workplace Diversity Awakening” followed by “What HR Professionals Need to Know to Combat Racism” in October. Not forgetting those in need, GOSHRM is also currently hosting a virtual food drive to benefit the Harvest Food Bank.
Space Coast Human Resources of Florida - The chapter’s focus continues to be about the professional development of its members. Realizing many of their members may have been impacted by COVID-19, SCHRA offered a free resume writing workshop in August. Next up – their annual Legal Update “A reflection of the legal year in review – new laws surrounding COVID, Harassment, Unfair Labor Practices and more.” This is SCHRA’s 50th Anniversary – we are so proud of you!
I my truly blessed to be working with three incredible Presidents. Thank you for making the District Five Director’s job such a pleasure.
