Advancing The Profession

Whether you've been laid off or leaving a toxic environment, losing your job and losing your confidence seem to go hand in hand. To be successful in retaining your confidence after losing your job, here are some tips to leave the pitfalls of the past employer in the past.

In December 2019, we shared a challenge to join SHRM’s A-Team. In true HR Florida fashion – we won! As promised, the $500 Amazon gift card furnished by Emily Dickens, Corporate Secretary, Chief of Staff and Head, Government Affairs at SHRM, will be used in our fundraising efforts for the SHRM Foundation. Thank you for sharing the A-Team information with your chapters and colleagues, joining, and getting involved!

If you haven’t already done so, please take a moment to sign up for the A-Team. SHRM’s Member Advocacy team will be sending out periodic emails with your state’s position in the standings and we are looking forward to a competitive race that will conclude at year’s end.
In the spirit of continued competition…SHRM presents a new challenge for 2020:

SHRM’s A-Team is growing and aims to have more than 20,000 members by the end of 2021. Though it is important we educate members on workplace policy through A-Team participation, it’s also important that we give members the skills, training, and resources needed to effectively advocate for solid workplace policy and sound strategy within their organizations. Realizing that this type of professional development is core to the work of HR professionals, we developed Advocacy@Work.

Advocacy@Work is a brand new, two-day immersive training and practical experience for attendees to learn how to use their voice to change workplace public policy at the national, state, and local levels. It provides attendees the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and learn how advocacy can make an impact on both policy and within your workplace. This event will not only provide members insight into workplace public policy, but also how to use persuasive storytelling to impact change in their organizations.

If you have any questions regarding the A-Team or Advocacy@Work, please reach out to Bailey Yeager at bailey.yeager@shrm.org.

When David Rietsema accepted a job out of college with Target’s HR department, he had no intention of making HR his career, let alone starting an entire HR-related business. All he was focused on was chipping away at his thousands of dollars of student debt.

Enhancing the SHRM Community

The Able Trust is excited to announce the launch of the ABLE Network(A Business Leadership Exchange).  The ABLE Network is created to support Florida businesses as they strive for a disability inclusive workforce.  It is made up of business leaders who have a desire to share their diversity & inclusion experiences and to learn from other colleagues.  The ABLE Network is a B2B/peer-to-peer network, and operates primarily through local leadership groups.  The network also engages with the Able Trust’s statewide workforce inclusion initiatives.

ABLE Network members have the opportunity to:
·         Learn proven strategies to advance disability inclusion in the work- and marketplace;
·         Cultivate relationships between business, community, and academic partners; and
·         Become thought leaders for disability workforce and marketplace inclusion.

We are currently recruiting business leaders who want to be a part of growing the ABLE Network in their local area, and we know that listening is the first step.  This fall we are holding a series of virtual “Listening Sessions” to solicit input on how an ABLE Network could meet your specific diversity & inclusion needs.  Register today, as spots are limited.
