The International Negotiation Modules Project (INMP) uses computer-assisted simulation as a tool to enhance learning and teaching strategies about international issues and negotiations across the community college curriculum. Simulation in this context is more than merely playing a game or participating in a predefined exercise. Rather, it encompasses the entire class structure and affects all learning modalities.
Since its inception in 1995, over 50 community colleges and 115 classes have participated. The nonconventional pairing of disciplines, the nontraditional use of integrated technology, and the diverse student body all enhance the overall quality of the simulation and the direct learning experience. International issues that depict real-life negotiation strategies and that specifically highlight the needs of community college students underscore the cross-institutional character of this project.
INMP is an innovative and viable model for linking technology and the internationalization of the curriculum. INMP recognizes that international issues are an integral part of every community college discipline, and that the task of internationalizing the curriculum not only can, but should be internationalized in all areas of the college environment.
