Two of the largest ventures providing MOOCs — massive open online courses — are announcing new partnerships with leading universities in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, along with additional American universities, The New York Times reports.

Coursera, founded by two Stanford University computer professors, is adding 29 universities — including schools in France, Singapore, and Mexico. There are currently 33 Coursera partners. And edX, a nonprofit venture started by Harvard and M.I.T., is expanding to have 12 university partners, adding Rice University, the Australian National University, Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland and McGill University and the University of Toronto in Canada.
