IIE-SRF fellow Dr. Nael Yasri, a biochemical engineer from Syria, recently submitted for patent approval an environmentally friendly and cost effective system to reuse liquid waste. The three-part system will break bonds in waste streams, recover heavy metal ions, and recycle materials to reusable form. Dr. Nasri undertook his first year of the IIE-SRF fellowship through a joint partnership between the University of Wisconsin(UW)-Madison and UW-Milwaukee. Now in his second year, he is furthering his research at the University of Western Ontario. As of June 2015, IIE-SRF has assisted 610 scholars by partnering with over 325 academic institutions in 40 countries.
