Members of ILTA’s Environmental, Health, Safety and Security Committee met at their semiannual meeting September 10-11 in San Antonio. Prior to the meeting, 10 of our members came early to join the ILTA staff in a volunteer activity in support of the Haven of Hope, a local charity that helps the homeless. They assembled some 250 personal necessities kits and 85 move-out kits with common household needs for clients moving to permanent housing.
During the meeting, the committee was deeply engaged in discussion of federal, state and local regulatory issues, EHS and security policies and information benchmarking. Speakers included Peter Weaver of Orbital Sidekick presenting on recent tests his company has run to detect ground disturbances using hyperspectral analysis of data from the International Space Station; Dan Somma provided an overview of Marathon Petroleum’s Dock Safety program; Kyle Hopkins with Datamaxx discussed how terminal members can tap into the FBI’s National Criminal Information Center data to supplement their personnel background checks; and representatives of the Federal Aviation Administration discussed what operators need to know about using drones at their facilities and responding to unauthorized intrusions. Steve Roberts provided a thorough overview of the latest developments on security issues about which terminal operators need to know.
Members participated in enjoyable social activities and had the opportunity to network and share information with their colleagues from around the country. The next meeting of the committee will be on March 31 and April 1, 2020 in New Orleans.
