ILTA hosted two webinars in May to help industry members comply with Coast Guard Maritime Transportation Security Act requirements. On May 13, David Nichols and Brian Shajari with the ABS Group presented on the requirements of the Coast Guard’s new Cyber Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circular 01-20, which provides guidance to MTSA-regulated facility owners and operators to comply with requirements to assess, document and address computer system or network vulnerabilities. The NVIC is largely based on adherence to the National Institute of Standards and Technology Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity. Facilities must update their security plans starting in October 2021, with full implementation by October 2022.
ILTA and the Chemical Security Group hosted a Facility Security Officer training webinar on May 20. The course covered the 21 items that the Coast Guard specifies that FSOs and assistant FSOs should be familiar with. Nearly 70 participated in the webinar, which was held over a six-hour timeframe.
