Nearly 100 participants joined ILTA for the Third Annual Terminal Operating Practices Symposium on September 24 via the Zoom virtual meeting platform. TOPS is an educational series designed to provide terminal company employees a forum to exchange lessons learned from facility incidents and near hits and discuss effective operating practices with their peers. Eight member-company representatives gave 13 presentations throughout the day. Topics included:
- LPG coupler failure
- Marine loading arm incidents and their related failure causes
- Pump maintenance and pump and valve failures
- Microbial management in product storage tanks
- Internal floating roof incidents
- Turbine meters and the use of dual pulse signals
- Hydrogen Sulfide exposure reduction strategies for off-loading asphalt
- Dealing with freezing in trailer internal drain tubes
- Building relationships with emergency responders
The TOPS event remains one of ILTA’s most popular educational offerings. Presentations approved by presenter’s employers are available for sharing with other terminal operating companies.
