ILTA President Kathryn Clay recently participated in two high-profile industry panels and used the opportunities to highlight the importance of the liquid storage industry to the smooth functioning of supply chains.

At both the Platt’s Oil Storage Conference industry panel, held virtually on January 21, and the Transportation Research Board’s annual meeting on January 27, Clay addressed the market imbalances that led oil prices to dip below zero briefly in April 2020. She also described how this event revealed the important, on-going role that liquid terminals play in alleviating disconnects between supply and demand. She also discussed the lead times required to obtain permits and construct new storage facilities, and the need to recognize these installations as part of America’s critical energy infrastructure.

The Platt’s conference, which drew more than 80 international participants, is primarily directed at energy traders and provides a viewpoint from industry professionals concerning major trends in the terminal business. The TRB annual meeting typically brings several thousand transportation researchers and practitioners to Washington. This year’s entire TRB program was held virtually; more than 100 participants joined the supply chain session at which Clay presented.

ILTA is launching a new Career Center. Whether you are seeking to hire a new employee or for a job, the ILTA Career Center is the go-to source for opportunities for the terminal industry.
