The 2020 election results are a “recipe for gridlock,” ILTA Vice President of Legislative Affairs Andy Wright told about 40 ILTA terminal members in a webinar briefing on November 19.
Joe Biden’s electoral victory over Donald Trump portends a shift back to Obama-era environmental policies, Wright told the webinar attendees.
The House and Senate have returned to Washington as the country enters an extremely unpredictable post-election season. After delaying so much critical work until after the election, Congress has a long to-do list, including funding the government and trying to pass a fifth coronavirus relief deal.

Marathon Petroleum Corporation's Marathon LPGA Classic presented by Dana golf tournament donated a record $600,000 to children's charities for 2020. Since 1984, the Marathon LPGA Classic presented by Dana has raised more than $12 million for charities benefiting children throughout northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. Phillips 66 has awarded 50,000 in funds for the Texas State Technical College Foundation benefiting student scholarships and other aid. Since 2018, Phillips has awarded more than 30 TSTC students with scholarships.

ILTA's Board of directors on November 11 elected Bernt A. Netland to a one-year term as its chairman, effective through fall 2021. Netland is president and CEO of Intercontinental Terminals Company LLC, a bulk liquid storage company for petrochemicals and petroleum products. “Bernt is extremely well qualified to lead ILTA during these extraordinary times, including by promoting terminals as indispensable infrastructure needed to power the world economy,” ILTA President Kathryn Clay said in a November 12 statement.
ILTA held its general membership meeting for 2020 virtually, with nearly 40 member participants. The highlight of the meeting was the election of the new slate of officers and board members. The membership also received a report on ILTA’s finances, its budget for 2021, a year-end review of ILTA’s actions in 2020 and a preview of 2021 initiatives, as well as a presentation on the results of the November 3 U.S. election.
ILTA will unveil its new blog, Think Tank, on December 7. Look for it on the ILTA website and our social media channels. We are launching the blog to provide a forum to highlight the liquid terminal industry and its importance to the U.S. and world economy.
ILTA significantly boosted its membership offerings in 2020, with an enhanced website, more significant interaction with members through calls and webinars, a more robust weekly and monthly newsletter, and a new membership platform that allows you to update your information quickly. You should have received your member invoice for 2021. We urge you to pay it promptly to retain your valuable ILTA services, which we intend to expand in 2021. All terminal member company representatives are invited to participate in a one-hour video call on December 10 at 2:00 p.m. ET on ILTA’s recent discussions with the Coast Guard on implementation of biometric requirements for TWIC readers.
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency will host its 2020 Chemical Security Seminars in December virtually, but you need to register today, December 1.
ILTA will host its monthly terminal member call on December 17 at 4 pm EST. ILTA anticipates a town hall forum in December, allowing members to discuss operational issues and regulatory and legislative concerns moving into 2021.
If you have your calendar out, make sure that you’ve added ILTA’s Annual Conference and Trade Show, which the association has shifted to October 4-6, 2021. ILTA will hold the conference at the Marriott Marquis in Houston and the trade show at the nearby George R. Brown Center.
