An influx of sophisticated cyberattack hardware is now being made available to the public for legal use, at very wallet-friendly prices. One particularly troubling example is the USB Ninja cable: a seemingly harmless smartphone charger that actually accesses wireless pathways and implants exploit software onto personal devices. Formerly an exclusive (and expensive) government weapon, it can now be purchased in pen-testing tool format for as little as $99.

Companies searching for a cybersecurity expert frequently turn to candidates with traditional experience and certifications in the field. This is a solid tried-and-true method, but it often excludes highly qualified individuals from the hiring pool who may be a perfect fit for the position. Those who have taken a nontraditional path to a cybersecurity career can be competitive, knowledgeable, reliable and quick to train, when given the opportunity.

Many cybersecurity experts agree that endpoint users will continue to be the weakest link in the chain of cybersecurity. The priority should be on training employees, who are direct targets on a daily basis, and who may be inadvertently compromising security and allowing dangerous ransomware to infiltrate critical company systems and networks.
