By CISOMAG
With skilled labor shortage numbers now in the millions, cybersecurity is facing a hiring struggle further exacerbated by a noticeable lack of female representation in the industry. According to recent reporting by the New York Times, Cybersecurity Ventures predicts that by 2021, there will be 3.5 million unfilled cybersecurity positions open across the globe. This number is a sharp increase from 2014's number of one million open positions. Multiple media outlets, education institutions, recruiting firms, security professionals and government entities corroborate these findings, with many concluding that the skills gap is most significant within the cybersecurity industry.

StaySafeOnline & the National Cyber Security Alliance
Cybercriminals are taking full advantage of coronavirus fears by running sophisticated online scams that extract users' financial and personal information, according to a recent report by Proofpoint. The scams may be camouflaged as legitimate texts, emails or other social media outlets. Some claim to offer virus awareness or preventative products, while others even go so far as to request donations to a charity. Many people fall prey to these scams because the messages appear to be from a friend, colleague, or trusted organization. The National Cyber Security Alliance urges everyone to be especially watchful for such scams as concern over the virus increases.
