Criminals Hide Fraud Behind the Green Lock Icon

Consumers are accustomed to having an extra layer of protection when they see the green lock icon in their browser. Unfortunately, this is less and less the case, as scammers are now setting up phishing domains that target unwary consumers. According to a recent report by NormShield, the volume of potentially phishing domains shot up by 11% just in the last year - but that's nothing compared to the number of phishing domains that were registered with legitimate encryption certifications, which tripled over that same time period.

Europol Shuts Down Over 30,500 Piracy Websites in Global Operation

Europol has successfully shut down more than 30,500 pirating websites and frozen more than €150,000 from multiple online payment platforms and back accounts. The massive 'win' against piracy sites is thanks in large part to "In Our Sites X" (IOS X), a joint anti-piracy operation created in 2014 and supported by international law enforcement and 18 European Union member states. Last year, the operation shut down more than one million website domains guilty of copyright infringement and counterfeit or other illegal sales.
