The ISEE Board of Directors Election is now underway. Eligible voters, all members in good standing with the exception of student members, can cast votes until Nov. 30, 2018. Eligible voters with an email on file should have received an email with step-by-step instructions for casting a vote online. Members who don’t have an email address on file will soon be receiving print ballots in the mail. ISEE members who are eligible to vote on constitutional changes will also see several proposed amendments. Your opinion matters. Take part in this year’s election. Opening speaker David Houle is a futurist, thinker and speaker. He will discuss emerging global trends and how they could affect the future of the explosives industry. Houle spent more than 20 years in media and entertainment. He has worked at NBC, CBS and was part of the senior executive team that created and launched MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1 and CNN Headline News. Houle has won two Emmys, the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award and the Heartland award for Hank Aaron: Chasing the Dream. He was also nominated for an Academy Award. Throughout the last 11 years, he has delivered more than 900 keynotes and presentations in 16 countries. Houle is often called "the CEOs’ Futurist," having spoken to or advised more than 4,000 CEOs and business owners throughout the past decade. He will give his presentation at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28 at opening session of the 45th Annual Conference on Explosives & Blasting Technique held in Nashville, Tenn.

Registration is now open for the International Society of Explosives Engineers' 45th Annual Conference on Explosives and Blasting Technique. It will be held Jan. 27 - 30, 2019, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn. As many as 1,600 blasters, manufacturers, government officials and suppliers will gather from all over the world to gain new insights and form new business alliances. Participation will be strong as the largest conference of its kind in the explosives industry returns to Music City. The 2019 program includes a dynamic education program featuring technical sessions, poster session and workshops combined with more than 130 exhibits on the latest technology. In addition to the full conference, the Blasters Weekend Package, commencing on Saturday, Jan. 26, will include the popular Blasters Training Seminar, the Blasters R Us Video Roundup, a regulatory panel discussion and more. In addition, educational programs, books, DVDs and ISEE apparel will be sold at the ISEE bookstore, including the 18th Edition ISEE Blasters’ Handbook (print and digital) and the 45th Annual Conference Proceedings, featuring all the technical papers from leading industry experts.

The ISEE is committed to keeping standards current with the best available technology and procedures and by policy requires the standards to be reviewed and modified every five years. The current standard scheduled for review is the Field Practice Guideline for Blasting Seismographs - 2015 Edition. The ISEE Standards Committee is asking for any public comment or proposed changes to the existing standard. Written comments that are received by Dec. 31, 2018, will be addressed by the Standards Committee in writing prior to modification of the standard.

Komatsu Mining Corp. will consolidate two of its Milwaukee-area operations in a $285 million headquarters and manufacturing facility at the former Solvay Coke site in the Milwaukee Harbor District, the company, state and local officials announced Thursday. The company will also build 170,000 square feet of office space, a 20,000-square-foot museum and training building and 410,000 square feet of manufacturing space, BizTimes reported.

New for 2018: All ISEE members now have free access to the online research database OneMine. It’s home to more than 124,000 articles, technical papers, books in the explosives, mining, minerals and tunneling industries. Along with ISEE technical papers, members now have free access to papers from SME, NIOSH, AusIMM, CIM, SAIMM, TMS, IMPC, DFI and IIMP. To access OneMine, ISEE members need to log in to the ISEE website first. Once in the members section, click on Research Papers and Proceedings. From there, members have two options to choose from. ISEE Explosives Reference Database Online contains only ISEE related papers and articles leading up to 2000. OneMine contains ISEE documents from 2001-2017 as well as all the 124,000 documents from other organizations.
