The estimated U.S. output of construction aggregate produced and shipped for consumption in the first quarter of 2019 was 449 million metric tons (Mt), an increase of 9 percent compared with that of the same period of 2018, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reports.

The most divisive mining project in recent Australian history can finally break ground after the state of Queensland cleared the final regulatory hurdle on Thursday for Adani Group’s Carmichael coal mine.

The approval of the project’s groundwater management marks the end of an almost 10-year wait, during which the proposed mine faced steady resistance by environmental groups. Local and international detractors, including the scientific, educational and cultural arm of the United Nations, (UNESCO), worried about the impact on marine ecosystems, particularly by the Great Barrier Reef.

The largest-known U.S. uranium deposit will remain firmly under ground after the Supreme Court on Monday upheld Virginia’s ban on mining the radioactive metal, rebuffing a challenge backed by President Donald Trump’s administration to the 1982 moratorium.

Canadian precious metals producer McEwen Mining (TSX, NYSE:MUX) said Thursday it had begun commercial production at its Gold Bar project in Nevada, US, which is expected to generate 50,000 bullion ounces this year.

The Toronto-based miner also said Jack Henris will be in charge of operations. Henris has years of experience in mine management, having worked at Newmont for 12 years and at Barrick for nine. Most recently, he held the vice president of mining and geotechnical position at Goldcorp.

When explosives go off, they can release debris and substances into the environment. And when new weapons are introduced it takes a lot of research to figure out how to make those explosives environmentally safe.

A University of Arizona engineering team is spearheading this research for the United States Department of Defense. UA's assistant dean of engineering, Jim Fields, said the military developed a new class of weapons. But the fall out from those weapons still needs to be researched.

In the preliminary stages of research, fields and his team work closely with the DOD to help keep military bases environmentally safe.
