After two years of virtual and hybrid youth camps, Missouri S&T’s in-person summer camps are back. From June 5-July 28, students in grades 5-12 will be able to immerse themselves in STEM-related subjects ranging from physics, computing and robotics to aerospace and explosives. Fifteen camp sessions covering 10 STEM-related topic areas are currently scheduled. All camps are residential, with a minimum two-night stay at the S&T campus in Rolla; the camps for students at the older end of the age range will include a five-night stay.

The Society of Explosives Engineers (SEE) Education Foundation has opened the 2022 application process for the SEE Scholarship program. In 2022, the SEE is making a total of $95,000 USD available in scholarships to students pursuing degrees related to the explosives industry. The scholarship acceptance period is March 14, 2022, to May 6, 2022.

To be eligible, students must be, or plan to be, pursuing a technical, undergraduate, graduate or doctorate degree in a field related to the commercial explosives industries. Students will be assessed on academic and professional achievements, industry goals, a personal challenges narrative and a brief statement of financial need.

Each year, the scholarship committee reviews and scores applications from students in a wide range of disciplines and makes awards ranging from $1,500 USD to a top award of $7,500 USD to well-qualified students. The deadline to submit your completed application is May 6, 2022. No extensions will be granted.

The annual Best in the West Drill and Blast Conference is an intensive three day event that brings together mining companies, drilling and blasting suppliers, and government agencies. The focus is networking, innovation, safety, and government regulation.

The conference has grown over the past several years to include over 300 registrants and 40 supplier booths. People attend from across the country. Many are employed in the region, but don't be surprised to see some from other countries.

The revenue generated from the conference goes to fund the Best in the West scholarship programs. Currently the Best in the West Conference has provided students from a seven-state area over $100,000 in scholarships over the past 20 years.
