ISTAT members gathered at locations around the globe on 3 December 2014 to celebrate the end of a successful 2014 and toast to the year ahead. The ISTAT Holiday Receptions took place in New York, London, Dublin, Tokyo and Singapore and provided a relaxed environment for members and their guests to catch up with old friends and connect with industry professionals.

ISTAT has always been dedicated to fostering and promoting interest and educational opportunities in commercial aviation for its members. We provide a forum for those involved in aviation and supporting industries, and to that end, we are now proud to announce that you can now find us on three social media channels: Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

The Nominations Committee is accepting nominations for positions that will become available on the ISTAT Board of Directors in March 2015. Nominees must be ISTAT members in good standing and must have been a member for at least the past two years. Additional information on the election process can be found in the Bylaws under Article VI - Elections.

In January, the ISTAT Board of Directors will be conducting a
Strategic Planning Session to look at the past, present and future for your
organization. ISTAT leadership conducts these sessions every five
years.
You - our members - are an important part of that process and we
value your collective input. Please take a few minutes to complete this brief electronic survey so we can
gather your thoughts on our current programs and what offerings you would like
to see in the future. This process will help us capture your views,
challenges and needs to better serve you.The brief survey should take
approximately 5-7 minutes and can be accessed via this link. The survey will be open

Airlines for America (A4A), the industry trade organization for the leading U.S. airlines, issued the following statement regarding fuel prices and ticket prices:
"Declining fuel prices are good news for everyone as they lower personal costs and enable industries such as airlines that rely heavily on fuel to reinvest in their business and their customers. Carriers continue to use improving finances to pay down the nearly $72 billion they are carrying in debt, acquire new aircraft, improve the onboard product, enhance airport facilities and amenities, reward employees through profit sharing and provide dividends to investors.

Airbus is accelerating its studies of an upgraded A380 and, after talks held last month with engine makers in Toulouse, appears to be closing on an initial agreement with Rolls-Royce.

GE Aviation has been selected by The Boeing Company to provide the Common Core System (CCS) and the Enhanced Airborne Flight Recorder (EAFR) for the Boeing 777X aircraft.
"This is a critical win for GE to supply the avionics computing system for the Boeing 777X, building on the success of our common core system on the 787," said Alan Caslavka, president of Avionics & Digital Systems for GE Aviation. "With the 787 and now the 777X, we have made future civil and military programs more affordable by resetting the avionics cost curve and doing away with escalating software development costs."

A group of industry heavyweights has warned that cybercrime is a serious threat to safety in the skies, and have vowed to fight the growing scourge before it causes a catastrophic incident.
The warning follows a series of suspected attacks, including theories that the missing Malaysian Airline planes may have been hijacked by cyber criminals.

Some Asian carriers, like Singapore Airlines Ltd. (SIA), have hedged fuel at an average of $116 a barrel of jet fuel, when spot market rates are about $85. That can result in losses on paper as airlines will have to account for their hedges or pay charges to unwind contracts prematurely.

Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI), is pleased to announce that the company has successfully delivered a third 11 pallet position B737-400SF to Switzerland based, FARNAIR Group. The aircraft is planned to join the South East Asia K-Mile operation as the second aircraft. Built in 1998, the aircraft (MSN 29000) was converted at Commercial Jet’s Dothan, Alabama, facility and was delivered on 28 November 2014. This is the third conversion of a four aircraft agreement.

GA Telesis Composite Repair Group ("CRG"), a leader in structural and composite repair technologies, announced recently that it has been awarded ANAC certification (SEGVOO 001) by the Brazilian Aeronautical Authorities.

The Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington, asked Aircraft Demolition for help restoring the first ever built Boeing 747-121. The Boeing 747 is an iconic aircraft and a personal favorite of the Aircraft Demolition team. The company was proud to donate many parts, including some fresh tires and many other artifacts to help restore the "Queen of the Skies."

AWAS announced that recently it has delivered a third aircraft, one A320-200, as part of a four-aircraft transaction with PT Lion Mentari Airlines (Lion Air) for three 737-800s and one Airbus A320. These new aircraft were purchased directly by the airline from their respective manufacturers.

Azul Brazilian Airlines today recently it has selected CFM International’s advanced LEAP-1A engine to power 35 Airbus A320neo family aircraft. CFM values engine order at more than $900 million U.S. at list price.

Intrepid Aviation is pleased to announce the acquisition of one Boeing 777-300ER. The aircraft was manufactured in 2012, is equipped with two General Electric GE90-115BL powered engines and is on long-term lease to Air France.

(SPPCA), a global provider of landing gear systems for commercial aircraft, has formed a business alliance for Product Support Services with Lufthansa Technik AG and Hawker Pacific Aerospace. Lufthansa Technik and its subsidiary Hawker Pacific Aerospace are two of the world's leading providers of landing gear maintenance and technical support services.

On 8 December 2014 SuperJet International (SJI) — joint venture between Finmeccanica-Alenia Aermacchi and Sukhoi Holding — received a special award from the Global Transport Finance in recognition of the most innovative financing transaction and the best contribution to the aviation transport finance industry in 2014.

For years, organizations have lavished time and money on improving the capabilities of managers and on nurturing new leaders. US companies alone spend almost $14 billion annually on leadership development.
Only 7 percent of senior managers polled by a UK business school think that their companies develop global leaders effectively, and around 30 percent of US companies admit that they have failed to exploit their international business opportunities fully because they lack enough leaders with the right capabilities.
Here are four ways for companies to get more from their leadership-development efforts—and ultimately their leaders—as these organizations face challenges ranging from the next demanding phase of globalization to disruptive technological change and continued macroeconomic uncertainty.

The 2014 Edelman Trust Barometer showed that only 44 percent of those surveyed around the world trusted government institutions to "do the right thing." Business did better, at 58 percent, but that is still troubling. What can the leadership of the Ebola response teach us about how we might make trust more robust? To start, those who expect to lead would do well to think about it broadly and intentionally.
