The popularity of ISTAT Asia continues to grow each year, making 2015 the best yet. The fifth annual event achieved record-breaking attendance with more than 500 attendees. The conference took place from 10-12 May at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia, Singapore. Attendees from nearly 30 countries consisted of a large number of first-timers complementing faithful ISTAT event attendees.

UAVs are generating increased interest as the next "big thing" for aerospace investment. Beyond military and law enforcement applications, UAVs can be put to all types of commercial uses including surveying, mapping, crop dusting, pipe line and power line surveillance, real estate marketing, and filming for the entertainment industry. Asset-based lending aside, the technologies behind UAVs may be one of the key drivers of future investment opportunities.

Airlink has partnered with nonprofit partners Afya Foundation, AmeriCares, and Samaritan’s Purse, airline partner Qatar Airways, and logistics partner LIFT to ship material aid to Kathmandu in response to the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal on 25 April 2015. These organizations will be providing critically needed medical supplies and shelter provisions to those in need throughout Nepal.

GE Capital Aviation Services Limited (GECAS), the commercial aircraft leasing arm of GE, recently announced delivery of a new leased Airbus A321 aircraft to Air China. The aircraft is part of GECAS’ existing order book with Airbus.
Air China is a longstanding GECAS customer and is the flag carrier of the People’s Republic of China with a fleet of more than 300 aircraft.

DVB Bank SE, the international transport finance specialist, more than doubled consolidated net income for the first quarter of 2015, from €33.9 million to €74.9 million.

Japan Airlines (JAL) has renewed its LLP supply agreement with TES Aviation Group (UK). The program covers approximately 15 CF6-80C2 shop visits at the Engine Maintenance Centre in JAL’s maintenance affiliate, JAL Engineering Company, for its 767 fleet.

Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI) recently announced that the company has reached a milestone event on the conformity CRJ200 SF conversion with the cutting of the door. This event signifies the mid-point in the overall modification process and is in line with planned certification for late 2015.

Airlink is pleased to announce that Peter Davies, currently CEO and Founder of Airline Management Group, is taking the helm of the Airlink Advisory Council effective 25 April 2015. Davies will replace outgoing chair, Barry Humphreys, who has served in the position since Airlink’s inception in 2010.

Precision Aircraft Solutions has begun a 757 passenger-to-freighter conversion for DHL. The worldwide logistics provider is in the process of replacing a portion of its European fleet. Work is underway at Flightstar Aircraft Services in Jacksonville, Florida.

Airlink was recognized for its role in a Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Commitment to Action led by WorldWater & Solar Technologies, Inc. (WorldWater). The Commitment to deliver three clean water systems to Sierra Leone was featured onstage during the afternoon Plenary Session entitled "Infrastructure Challenges: Cites of the Future" at the Clinton Global Initiative 2015 Middle East & Africa Meeting in Marrakech, Morocco, on Wednesday, 6 May 2015.

In 2014, the ISTAT Foundation provided humanitarian grants to the following organizations: Angel Flight (USA), Aviation Without Borders (UK), Royal Australian Flying Doctor Service, AMREF (Kenya), and the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue. Each US $10,000 grant helped these charitable organizations to continue their excellent work providing humanitarian services, which are variously designed to save or improve lives and to alleviate human suffering.

The chief operating officer has traditionally been the No. 2 person in the C-suite — the senior executive charged with overseeing all of the company’s business operations. As such, the COO has long been viewed as the heir apparent, the leading insider candidate to succeed the chief executive officer. Yet, according to the senior executive search firm Crist Kolder Associates, the percentage of Fortune 500 and S&P 500 companies with a COO has declined steadily from 48 percent in 2000 to 36 percent in 2014.
