The Chalet offers a convenient setting for quick meetings and the opportunity to mingle with other ISTAT members. It also provides easy access to the static air exhibits as well as fantastic views of the daily air show.

Bring your family! Members are welcome to bring up to five guests on designated family days, and children of all ages are especially welcomed. Please note: Children under the age of 16 are not allowed at the Chalet, except on Friday, 20 July and Saturday, 21 July. Registration is required.

 

Registration for ISTAT EMEA, set for 23-25 September at the Hilton Prague in the Czech Republic, opens soon. Housing options will be available, but you must register before housing can be secured. ISTAT EMEA provides members with countless opportunities to network and create new, lasting business connections. Nearly 2,000 delegates are projected to attend the event, which will again feature keynote presentations, panel discussions and much more. Look for more information in the coming weeks.

 

Save the date for the next ISTAT Latin America Forum. This year's event takes place 14-15 November at the JW Marriott Hotel Lima in Lima, Peru. Registration will open in August.

 

On 25 May 2018, a new European Union (EU) data protection law, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), took effect. GDPR gives individuals in the EU more control over how their data is used and places specific requirements on businesses to comply. As a result of GDPR, ISTAT now has an updated privacy policy. The application for the 2018 ISTAT U 2.0 program (online version) is now available to qualified, current students at universities around the world. ISTAT U is a specially designed one-year (six credit hour or global equivalent) aviation finance and leasing program. The ISTAT Foundation is pleased to announce that Airbus Americas has donated $25,000 to the Foundation, to aid in its support of individuals and institutions that promote the advancement of commercial aviation and humanitarianism. The Airbus Americas donation was provided in tandem with a personal contribution to the Foundation by 2018 ISTAT Award winner Jeff Knittel.

According to figures compiled by The International Air Transport Association (IATA), global passenger traffic grew by 6.2% in April. The increase was smaller than the 9.7% growth figure reported in March, but IATA said that optimism for continued growth is high.

 

Longtime ISTAT member and industry pioneer Steve Udvar- Házy is slated as a speaker for September's AIR Convention 2018 in Lithuania. Ahead of the event, Házy offered a few thoughts regarding insights that he has gained in his 40-plus years in aviation.

 

Costs, especially for network carriers, rose in 2017, as total maintenance cost per available seat mile increased an average of 3% over 2016. Larger carriers such as American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines reported the largest increases.
