During his more than 60-year tenure in the aviation industry, he became a well-respected industry partner and touched many lives. The ISTAT Foundation has created the Gilbert W. Speed Memorial Scholarship fund in an effort to recognize the many industry contributions and friendships Speed has made during his career.

Strategy & BusinessExecutives put a lot of emphasis on corporate culture, and for understandable reasons. Fostering a culture entails—in the popular metaphor of Jim Collins—"getting the right people on the bus," meaning hiring employees who buy into the corporate culture and make it a part of how they work every day. Yet it also means getting the wrong people off the bus, and that’s often the hardest part.
