Industry News
KXANAirlines for America (A4A), the industry trade organization for the leading U.S. airlines, issued the following statement regarding fuel prices and ticket prices: "Declining fuel prices are good news for everyone as they lower personal costs and enable industries such as airlines that rely heavily on fuel to reinvest in their business and their customers. Carriers continue to use improving finances to pay down the nearly $72 billion they are carrying in debt, acquire new aircraft, improve the onboard product, enhance airport facilities and amenities, reward employees through profit sharing and provide dividends to investors.

Business WireGE Aviation has been selected by The Boeing Company to provide the Common Core System (CCS) and the Enhanced Airborne Flight Recorder (EAFR) for the Boeing 777X aircraft. "This is a critical win for GE to supply the avionics computing system for the Boeing 777X, building on the success of our common core system on the 787," said Alan Caslavka, president of Avionics & Digital Systems for GE Aviation. "With the 787 and now the 777X, we have made future civil and military programs more affordable by resetting the avionics cost curve and doing away with escalating software development costs."

Professional Development
McKinsey & CompanyFor years, organizations have lavished time and money on improving the capabilities of managers and on nurturing new leaders. US companies alone spend almost $14 billion annually on leadership development. Only 7 percent of senior managers polled by a UK business school think that their companies develop global leaders effectively, and around 30 percent of US companies admit that they have failed to exploit their international business opportunities fully because they lack enough leaders with the right capabilities. Here are four ways for companies to get more from their leadership-development efforts—and ultimately their leaders—as these organizations face challenges ranging from the next demanding phase of globalization to disruptive technological change and continued macroeconomic uncertainty.

strategy+businessThe 2014 Edelman Trust Barometer showed that only 44 percent of those surveyed around the world trusted government institutions to "do the right thing." Business did better, at 58 percent, but that is still troubling. What can the leadership of the Ebola response teach us about how we might make trust more robust? To start, those who expect to lead would do well to think about it broadly and intentionally.
