President’s Message – December

As the year is winding to a close, this is a great opportunity to look back on all that has taken place in 2016. For some, this has been their best year ever! For others, they cannot wait to put 2016 to rest and start anew in 2017. I always find the end of the year to be a great time to reevaluate many aspects of my personal and professional life. While I’m not a big believer in New Year’s resolutions, I am a big fan of setting goals for myself. I look forward to putting those in writing before the end of the year and encourage you to consider doing the same as well.

For our chapter, 2016 has been a good year. MPIKC is financially strong, we have one of MPI’s highest levels of chapter volunteerism, we have rebranded ourselves in putting MPI first, we have redesigned our chapter website, we have held some very highly attended events in the past twelve months, and we have begun to celebrate our 35-year anniversary of MPIKC! There will be much more to come in the next few months!

This is also the time of year that I like to ensure that I am giving thanks to all of those that I encounter throughout the year. I am honored to serve as your president and to serve alongside your fellow members on the board of directors. I am deeply appreciative of the varying perspectives of those at the board table and of our members that I am fortunate enough to interact with. There are many people that give lots of hours to our chapter that remain behind the scenes. Thank you to all of those volunteers! We are fortunate to operate our chapter with the need for only one employee. Our chapter administrator, Aesha Beattle, has been in this position for the past 18 months. She is a great spokesperson for our chapter, for MPI, and for Kansas City. Unless you encounter a problem, you may never even interact with Aesha. I am appreciative of all of her work behind the scenes, and for her smiling face working registration at all of our events.

I will leave this newsletter with one challenge to all of you. I encourage you to seek out someone every day until the end of the year and tell them that you appreciate them and why. Teach peace, love people, and be happy. Thank you for being part of our chapter of MPIKC. Happy holidays to you all!
