Dear KCMPI Members,

Happy autumn! I’m not sure at what point in my adult life I began to look forward to the fall, which brings cooler weather, colorful leaves and many festivals. I enjoy the thought of pulling out those comfy sweaters, styling jackets and the assortment of boots. Like the seasonal weather change, our lives also take many twists and turns. Some of these changes are controllable, and others not. Regardless, change is needed and is a good thing.

As I was sweating (profusely) in a recent spin class, the instructor yelled over the loud pounding music ... "Without discomfort, you will never experience positive change." It’s a very simple statement and a very true one for all aspects of our lives. Whether trying to improve your health, work on a relationship, advance your career, or maybe even change the path you are on ... there will be discomfort. The rewards are endless though.

As KCMPI continues to offer high-quality educational programs, perhaps something you hear will trigger you to proactively make a positive change in yourself or in something you are doing. I encourage you to attend KCMPI’s International Meeting program on October 22 at the InterContinental Kansas City. This program is not only for international planners, it’s for all members and industry peers – suppliers and planners. As our world becomes increasingly smaller, it is vital for us to understand how to maneuver in this ever-changing environment. A shift in our thinking may be needed.

Next time you are in a situation, and perhaps feeling a little out of your league, remember without discomfort, positive change will not happen. Stop, breathe and embrace it. With more than 200 members and growing strong, KCMPI is an incredible network and resource of meeting and event professionals that can help map your future success. Be part of the change, be involved in your KCMPI Chapter, and be prepared for when that great opportunity knocks on your door and invites you to make a change.

Wishing you a fabulous and successful season ahead!
