Dear Members and Friends,
There once was a TV show named "The Andy Griffith Show." It was a long time ago for sure, but I used to watch it along with most of the country because there were only three, yes three, channels to choose from.
Anyway, there was a character named Gomer Pyle. Just a smiling guy, always meaning good, and when something new would happen that he wanted to tell his friends about he would say "Surprise, surprise, surprise!" All the time with a smile, and everyone would wait for his declaration.
Well, surprise, surprise, surprise, I’m your new President!
Gomer always had supportive friends around him who would encourage him, guide him and help him with his surprises and day-to-day life. So, he fulfilled his work, with a smile and with a great attitude. I know that with the membership’s, Board of Director’s, and all the past presidents' help, encouragement and participation, I will be able to fulfill my position’s work – and with a smile on my face!
Notice that I listed participation, because it is so needed, and actually required, for your Chapter to be successful. I want to encourage you to get involved, as little and as much as you want, but do jump into the water. It’s really not all that cold! And what a great way to meet new friends than to work together on a committee. You have unique talents, and we challenge you to use them to make this Chapter even better. Put your touch and uniqueness into your Chapter.
Normally, this is where all my wonderful goals would be stated, but really, this "surprise" has happened so quickly that I won’t have my lofty goals until I actually start my term on July 1. But let me tell you at least one of my goals. I want to help you to have fun, for the Board and me to have fun, and for all of us to learn from our interaction and from our events. I have a great Board of Directors, and they are all working very hard to provide you education and networking opportunities. The rest of this year will be excitingly full of wonderfully planned events. Plan to attend all of them, you won’t want to miss any of them and – who knows? – maybe you will come away smiling and inspired!
