A Letter from KCMPI President Phil Allemang, CAS

August is not supposed to be this busy, this hectic, but it surely is this year. I just got back from WEC. Many are getting their kids ready or off to school. Others are getting home from a summer vacation. We are all very good at putting too many activities into our 24-hour days, but not really as good as we should be at determining what is really important, asking ourselves what do we really have to do, and knowing when we should just relax a little.
I’d like to encourage you all to put some effort into planning and enjoying an hour or two every now and then that can be just for you. Maybe it is just relaxing, maybe sharing your life with some friends, maybe savoring some really unique appetizers and a beverage – all good ideas. Time that is good for your body, good for your mind and attitude, and good for your soul. I have a great idea to help facilitate this encouragement, attend every KCMPI event each month. What better place to be among your peers and friends away from those daily hassles that just don’t go away where you can just get away for a couple of hours and let those other concerns just slide for a time. You deserve this, and I believe you will be a better person by attending.
Your Education Team is busy working very hard setting up events that will be enlightening and enjoyable with networking always available. Some events will be just fun, like the first 5K this last Saturday. I was privileged to meet Ed, a 95-year-old gentleman who started running marathons when he turned 70. He has now run one in every state, D.C., and some other countries. He participated in our 5K Run/Walk, and he tries to do one about every week. He has had to slow down on marathons since he fell and broke his hip at his house about a year ago. He laid on his floor after breaking it for 3.5 days, until a friend found him. He is a tough guy, but he knows how to finish a race. I think we all can learn a lot from Ed, to finish our own race, our own part of life. And to finish it with gusto!
I hope to see you at one of our next events down the road. Until then, be diligent, enjoy life, and finish with gusto.
