Happy New Year to all! I hope that everyone had a great holiday season and a very happy start to the new year. This is a time of reflection and of planning; reviewing last year’s accomplishments and setting goals for the upcoming year.

First, I want to thank you for selecting me to represent Region 3 on the ASHE Board for 2018 and 2019. I have been delighted to present the accomplishments, initiatives and issues shared by our state chapters leadership to the ASHE Board over the past year. I have especially enjoyed working with and getting to know the Kentucky chapter leadership and members.

Many of KSHE’s programs have become models for other chapters; especially the training and education programs. KSHE’s educational programs were instrumental in ASHE’s new Certified Health Care Physical Environment Worker designation. KSHE is promoted on ASHE’s website as a Preferred Education Provider, with a link to the KSHE Safe Day One Education Program. Additionally, KSHE has been recognized as a 2017 Platinum Elite chapter, demonstrating excellence in leadership, education, operational efficiency and member value. Congratulations to all members of KSHE for this accomplishment as it takes each member’s participation.

Chapter affiliation awards for 2018 will be announced at the 56th ASHE Annual Conference and Technical Exhibition in Baltimore. KSHE continued its participation in the Energy to Care program in 2018 and is eligible for the top designation of Elite chapter once again. I would like to offer a challenge to you for 2019 – please participate in the Energy to Care program. Go to www.energytocare.org for more information. It is an easy and free energy benchmarking tool that will assist you in tracing energy use and expenditures and will track and report on energy use and reductions. Since 2009, facilities benchmarking in the ASHE Energy to Care have reduced the cost of healthcare by $396 million.

It is my pleasure to represent KSHE and Region 3 on the ASHE Board this past year and this coming year. I remain committed to representing you professionally, ethically and passionately and ensuring that your voice is heard.

Michael
