Greetings KSHE Members,
Super Bowl, Valentine's, impeachment, cebinars, coronavirus & CHFT! As I write up this edition, I find several hot topics competing for my attention along with my daily duties and education update.
The Super Bowl, while not a serious educational update, is still an amazing spectacle and tradition that ironically started the year I was born. It always reminds me how old I am. Did your team win? What was your favorite commercial? Did you watch the halftime show? I am sure you ate more than you should have!
The coronavirus hopefully will be a much smaller event that anticipated. It does seem the response has been unprecedented. It's a great time to review and update your pandemic plans and also educate staff to minimize the normal fear that comes along with the raised concerns. Also a good time to optimize your ventilation and humidification systems. Did you know lower humidity contributes to suspension and travel distance of viruses? Also a good time to discuss staffing plans, just in case illness takes out more than just a few folks. Let’s hope for the best.
Hopefully, we don’t have to be exposed to another impeachment in our lifetime. Given that this is the third in my lifetime, or three out of the four that have been implemented, I would say we have already had more than our fair share.
If you are like me, Valentine’s Day feels a bit forced to buy candy, flowers, dinner, and gifts. I have made it a habit to “celebrate” my wife on any day other than February 14th! I would love to tell you that my wife appreciates this idiosyncrasy; however, I get the sense that she would like me to get on board with the millions of others observing this sacred celebration. Maybe next year!

February 17th – Certified Healthcare Facility Technician (CHFT) National Launch Webinar – There will be two (2) opportunities to understand and gain insight on this healthcare facilities technician focused national exam/certification and the engagement platform. February 20th - A special CHFT webinar will be held for KSHE members to review the exam content and engagement platform. Be on the lookout for the webinars registration.
March 6th – To be held at Baptist Health Lexington. If your earning your CHC for the first time or renewing, plan to join us for our first of three offerings. Go to www.KSHE.org to register.
