Whew!! 2020 is over. What a year. I want to start my first message with a big shout out to Joe Taylor. He kept us focused and on track through a very trying time during an unprecedented pandemic. With his leadership, we were able to keep KSHE on track with our objective to provide a medium for the interchange of ideas among members and dissemination of information to members. Joe led a webex panel of experts to pass on pertinent information to our member hospitals and share ideas and experiences in coping with the COVID pandemic. Again Joe, thank you for your leadership and dedication in making KSHE the leading ASHE chapter in educational content and member participation.

Okay, we have a vaccine. There is a light at the end of the tunnel to beat this crazy virus and hopefully get our lives back to a semblance of normalcy. The vaccine is available voluntarily to any healthcare worker that wants to take it. This is a choice that each of us has to make based on our own situations and beliefs. Some of us may choose to wait and see if this vaccine is effective against the virus or what complications can arise from the vaccine. Others may want to take the vaccine to ease their fears of contracting the virus. As a healthcare worker being exposed almost daily, I have made the decision to take the vaccine not for my protection but to protect the people around me who I could expose to the virus through my job. Will the vaccine work? I don’t know for sure, so even though I have taken the vaccine, I will continue to take precautions to protect the people around me.

I am looking forward to the coming year and what opportunities it may bring for KSHE. We have a great board assembled with some experienced members, some returning members and some new members with fresh ideas. We will continue to create new educational opportunities and grow our chapter membership. We will strengthen our relationship with ASHE and continue to make KSHE worthy of our designation as a Platinum Elite chapter.

Thank you,
