President's Message
I am excited to begin this December message to KSHE members by congratulating the facilities team at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for being selected by ASHE as its “2019 Excellence in Facilities Management” award winner. This award is given annually to individuals and teams that exemplify how facility managers and caregivers join together to identify an issue and create a proactive and viable approach to attaining resolution that optimizes the physical environment and improves patient care. The Owensboro Health facilities team is the first and ONLY hospital in Kentucky to receive this prestigious recognition, and will be featured in the upcoming edition of HFM. Very well done.

Sustainability Spotlight
Annually ASHE hosts a competition among hospitals and other healthcare facilities to save energy and protect the climate, known as Energy to Care. To create local interest, KSHE has created its own competition, The Energy Derby, to increase efforts in hospitals statewide to reduce excessive energy use. Energy reduction is driven through improvements in energy efficiency with help from KSHE, ASHE, and the Energy to Care program. The member facilities that shed the most energy consumption will be recognized.
In 2019, KSHE is offering energy benchmarking support and a free energy assessment to members to assist facilities that may be limited on resources.
