LP Building Products Adds LP® Techshield® Radiant Barrier

The LP Building Products oriented strand board (OSB) mill at Roxboro, N.C., has added energy-saving LP® TechShield® Radiant Barrier Sheathing to its manufacturing capabilities.

"We started up the new LP TechShield operation in Roxboro on June 14," said Plant Manager Wayne Young. "All of our employees are so proud that we will now be making this popular energy-saving product right here in North Carolina. Until now, LP TechShield Radiant Barrier Sheathing has been shipped to customers in our state from other LP mills."

LP TechShield Radiant Barrier Sheathing helps block radiant heat in the roof from entering the attic, keeping the attic cooler, lowering energy costs and making the home more comfortable. Installed like regular roof sheathing, it increases the efficiency of the in-attic air handling system, reducing monthly air conditioning bills up to 17 percent. On the market for more than a decade, LP TechShield Sheathing has already saved an estimated 245 million kilowatt hours of energy.

The product is made by laminating a durable sheet of aluminum to LP OSB sheathing. The panel is then incised with a patented process known as VaporVents™ technology, resulting in small holes that penetrate the foil, glue and OSB substrate.

State Representative Winkie Wilkins and State Senator Ellie Kinnaird toured the LP mill and cut the ribbon on Roxboro’s new LP TechShield operation, officially inaugurating made-in-North-Carolina radiant barrier sheathing.

LP’s Roxboro OSB mill, the fifth LP OSB mill to make LP TechShield Radiant Barrier Sheathing, employs 129 people. In operation since 1996 and with an annual rated capacity of 470 million square feet of OSB (3/8 inch basis), LP Roxboro manufactures LP® OSB Sheathing, LP® TopNotch® Sub-flooring, LP® SuperStruct® Furniture Panels, and LP® TechShield® Radiant Barrier Sheathing. All wood used by the plant is certified in accordance with Sustainable Forestry Initiative® standards.
