Home Hardware Stores Limited Recognizes 17 Proud of My Home Achievement Award-Winners

Home Hardware Stores Limited is pleased to recognize Wilson's Home Hardware Building Centre in Nova Scotia’s Barrington Passage community as the recipient of the annual Walter J. Hachborn Store of the Year Award. The awards were handed out at Home Hardware’s 2023 Homecoming event in Toronto on September 13.

The award was presented to Mike Wilson, Dealer-Owner of Wilson's Home Hardware Building Centre, for upholding the values on which Home Hardware was co-founded by Walter J. Hachborn nearly 60 years ago—value, service, and dependability. Wilson and his store were also awarded Best Home Hardware Building Centre – Atlantic Region at the ceremony.

It was in 1965 when Wilson’s grandfather, Buzz Wilson, first began talks with Walter J. Hachborn about joining a young group of independently owned hardware stores called Home Hardware. The Wilson family store joined the Home business in 1967, and nearly 50 years later, Mike Wilson took over as Dealer.

"I am extremely honoured to receive these awards and carry on my family’s legacy," said Mike Wilson, Dealer-Owner, Wilson's Home Hardware Building Centre. “My great grandfather and grandfather built this business from the ground up, and my parents continued to grow it over their careers. I am fortunate to be the current steward of a proud, generational business of more than 100 years of service to our community. I want to thank my staff who always go above and beyond to maintain an excellent level of customer service. Without them, this award would not be possible.”

Now in its 26th year, the Walter J. Hachborn Store of the Year Award pays tribute to the top Home store across all banners. The winner is selected from close to 1,100 stores across Canada for achieving the highest standards in retailing, merchandising, and staff performance along with overall quality and service.

“Mike and his team at Wilson's Home Hardware Building Centre truly embody what the Walter
J. Hachborn Store of the Year Award stands for," said Kevin Macnab, President and CEO, Home Hardware Stores Limited. "Continuing in his family’s footsteps, Mike is a distinguished ambassador for Home Hardware, serving his community with the same excellent customer service and community values that our brand was built upon.”
