This year marks a significant milestone for United Lumber Home Hardware Building Centre as they celebrate 50 years of serving the Barrie community. Since opening their doors as an independent retailer in 1974, this business has established itself as a cornerstone in the local retail landscape, offering everything from home improvement supplies to expert advice.
Saturday July 27 marked the 50th anniversary of this store. This remarkable event was a huge family celebration. Guests were treated to cotton candy, cake, bouncing castles, a giant whack-a-mole game, a BBQ, and prizes. This combined with spectacular weather all made for a terrific day for staff and customers.
United Lumber was founded in 1974 by Vic De Biasio. Throughout its history, the store has been known for its dedication to customer satisfaction, knowledgeable staff, and community involvement. The team at United Lumber has always prided itself on being more than just a store but a vital part of the Barrie community.
In 1992 United Lumber joined the Home Hardware banner, a national dealer-owned buying group, becoming a mainstay on Barrie’s Golden Mile. In July 2015, United Lumber HHBC faced one of the greatest challenges in its history when a massive fire caused by arson swept through their lumber yard. The blaze caused extensive damage to their lumber supply, threatening to disrupt the business and displace the community’s go-to resource for home improvement needs. In the wake of the fire, the store quickly mobilized to continue serving customers. The resilience of the United Lumber team and the outpouring of support from the Barrie community played a crucial role in the swift recovery.
Throughout the past 50 years, United Lumber has been deeply involved in the Barrie community. From sponsoring local sports teams and participating in charity events, the store has always been dedicated to giving back to the people who have supported them throughout the years. The charity BBQ was in support of The Busby Centre, there was also face painting, music, snow cones for everyone in attendance.
It was a beautiful way to celebrate this important milestone with members of the Barrie community. Congratulations to the De Biasio family for the past fifty years and we are looking forward to the next fifty.
