On August 2, Public Service and Procurement Canada (PSPC) hosted a special event where representatives from NTCCC, the Canadian Construction Association (CCA) and the General Contractors Alliance of Canada (GCAC) were invited to receive a debrief from Bruce Reynolds, Sharon Vogel and James Little (Singleton Urquhart Reynolds Vogel LLP) on their report released the same day.
The main highlight was that the report recommends a federal prompt payment legislation with a built-in adjudication process. This is something the NTCCC has fought for more than ten years and should be considered a significant accomplishment.
In the next two weeks, the key stakeholders will have a chance to make written comments back to Reynolds and Vogel. They also encouraged us to make comments on issues we would like to see addressed or clarified.
The next battle is to push the federal government to draft legislation and pass it prior to the next federal election.
